A UAE travel ban check online takes a few minutes, and it can save you a ruined trip. Many residents only learn about a ban at the airport, after they have paid for the ticket and the hotel.
This guide shows you where to run a UAE travel ban check online for Dubai and Abu Dhabi, which ID each system asks for, and what to do if the result shows a ban. It also explains the law behind bans, how to lift one, and how to spot fake removal offers.
Quick answer: For Dubai, log in with UAE PASS on the Dubai Police app or website and open “Inquiry About Circulars and Travel Bans”. For Abu Dhabi, use the Estafser service of the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department. To cancel a ban, you usually pay the debt or ask the issuing authority or the Ministry of Justice to lift it. A clean result in one system does not prove you are free of every restriction.
A travel ban is a legal block that stops you from leaving the country. A court, a prosecutor or the police can issue it. Airport staff then stop you at departure.
The UAE government portal says a pending legal case can lead to a travel ban. It advises you to settle any issue before you travel and to seek help from a lawyer or an immigration office if you are unsure.
These three get mixed up. They are not the same thing.
| Type | What it stops | Who issues it | Where to read more |
|---|---|---|---|
| Travel ban | You leaving the UAE | Court, Public Prosecution, police | This guide |
| Immigration ban | Entry or visa matters | Immigration authorities | UAE visa status guide |
| Labour ban | New work permits | Labour authorities | Labour ban check guide |
A labour ban does not block your flight. A travel ban does.
Most bans come from money disputes or open cases. Here are the common causes.
A creditor wins a judgment, sends an execution notice, and the debtor does nothing. The creditor can then ask the court for a ban.
Under the Civil Procedure Law, the conditions for a civil travel ban include:
A debt of AED 10,000 or more.
Serious grounds to believe the debtor plans to leave.
A request made as an Order on Petition.
Written proof that the debt is clear and due.
A guarantee from the creditor against damages if the claim later fails.
A dishonoured cheque can act as a writ of execution. That lets the creditor open an execution case straight away. If the debtor ignores it, a ban can follow. This comes from the Commercial Transactions Law.
Dubai Police now handles some rental dispute bans online. More on that in the Dubai section below.
Police or the Public Prosecution can block your travel while a case is open. This is separate from detention.
An ordinary fine alone is usually not the trigger, but it can become one. Unpaid fines can grow into a debt claim. Serious offences, such as drunk driving or hit and run, can lead to a criminal case and a ban. Do not assume a fine is harmless.
Still, clear your fines early. You can check fines from every emirate with your Emirates ID, and paying early can also earn a traffic fine discount in some emirates.
Courts can also restrict travel when a child’s custody or consent is in dispute. These cases follow the personal status laws. Speak to a lawyer for these.
You do not need to read the law to run a UAE travel ban check online. But it helps to know your rights.
| Topic | Law | Article |
|---|---|---|
| Civil and commercial bans | Federal Decree-Law 42 of 2022 (Civil Procedure) | Art. 324 |
| Lifting a civil ban | Same law | Art. 325 |
| Challenging a civil ban | Same law | Art. 209(1) |
| Prosecution travel ban | Federal Decree-Law 38 of 2022 (Criminal Procedure) | Art. 99 |
| Cheque as writ of execution | Federal Decree-Law 50 of 2022 (Commercial Transactions) | Arts. 630, 667 |
Read the exact wording on the UAE Legislation portal before you rely on any article number.
Three cautions:
The AED 10,000 level is a threshold, not an automatic trigger. The conditions listed earlier and the legal exceptions also apply.
A cheque working as an execution instrument and a travel ban are two separate legal steps.
Article 99 gives the prosecutor power to order a ban in criminal matters. It does not cover civil debt or immigration restrictions.
| Service | Purpose | Limit |
|---|---|---|
| UAE government portal | Explains preliminary checks and where to check | Guidance page, not a check tool |
| Dubai Police app and website | Circular and travel ban inquiry in Dubai | Instant payment covers Rental Dispute Settlement Centre cases first |
| Estafser (ADJD) | Inquiry on bans and cases for Abu Dhabi | Needs your UID number; coverage beyond Abu Dhabi not confirmed |
| Ministry of Justice | Cancellation request for bans tied to an active execution file | Not a route for every ban |
No single screen shows every ban. This table helps you pick the right door.
| Your situation | Where to check | Login or ID |
|---|---|---|
| Lives or has cases in Dubai | Dubai Police app or website | UAE PASS |
| Abu Dhabi cases or claims | Estafser, Abu Dhabi Judicial Department | UID number and a captcha |
| Court case or Public Prosecution | The relevant court or prosecution site | Case or ID details |
| Ras Al Khaimah civil case | RAK Courts online services | Case details |
| Unsure, or other emirates | Police station, immigration office, or a lawyer | Passport or Emirates ID |
You can also visit a police station with your passport, or ask an Amer centre for guidance.

Dec 2025: Dubai Police upgraded the service. It now shows criminal and financial status for most report types and names the authority you must contact. It runs 24 hours a day.
Jan 2026: Dubai Police made the process fully online. You can check, pay, and see the ban lifted within seconds after payment. It works for people inside and outside the UAE. Users also get alerts if a ban is registered.
In this first phase, the instant payment and removal covers bans from the Rental Dispute Settlement Centre. Dubai Police said it is working with Dubai Courts and the Public Prosecution to add their bans later. No dates were given.
So a clean result here does not prove you are free everywhere. A court or prosecution ban may need its own check.
An older Dubai Police service called “Criminal Status of Financial Cases” asked for an Emirates ID and an SMS code. It may have been replaced or renamed, so use whatever the current app shows.
Estafser is the online inquiry service of the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department. The inquiry form asks for your UID, the unified number on your residence file, and a captcha. The page also offers a UAE PASS or SmartPass login for other ADJD services.
It covers:
Travel bans.
Pending court or financial cases.
Other administrative issues.
Legal status updates from the Public Prosecution and other authorities.

Your UID is printed on your residence visa and entry permit. You can also find it through ICP or GDRFA services.
The Judicial Department said 97 percent of inquiries in the first quarter of 2025 received an answer within one working day, and 99 percent within three days.
No official source says it covers the whole UAE, so treat it as an Abu Dhabi service.
The UAE government portal lists the Dubai Police app, a smart police station, and the Public Prosecution as check points.
Options include RAK Courts’ online services, plus a visit to a police station and the CID section.
We could not find a dedicated public online service on the official websites of these emirates. Ask the local police, the local court, or the immigration office of that emirate. A lawyer can also check for you with a power of attorney.
You can ask the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security or GDRFA Dubai about visa and entry restrictions. These cover immigration status, not court bans.
Each system asks for a different identifier.
| ID | Used for |
|---|---|
| Emirates ID | Older Dubai Police financial case check; Ministry of Justice services |
| UID (unified number) | Estafser (required) |
| Passport number | Police station inquiry |
| UAE PASS | Login for Dubai Police and MOJ services |
No official service gives an instant online result from a passport number alone. If a site asks for your passport number and card details together, stop.
Your Emirates ID details also matter for other records, so check your Emirates ID status before you travel.
If a ban or circular shows:
If your result is clear:
Treat it as clear for that system only. A court, prosecution or other authority may hold its own record.
If you have a specific worry, confirm with the relevant court, prosecution or authority.
How you lift a ban depends on who issued it. Start with the result screen. It tells you the issuing authority.

If your ban is a rental dispute circular, you may pay online. Dubai Police said the ban lifts within seconds after payment.
The Ministry of Justice lists a “Cancellation Request of Travel Ban Order” service in its services directory.
| Item | What the page says |
|---|---|
| Fee | 300 (confirm the currency and amount on the live page) |
| Duration | 2 days |
| Login | UAE PASS |
| Who can apply | A person with legal standing to apply |
| Conditions | A travel ban order must already exist, and an active execution file must exist |
| Steps | Register with UAE PASS, apply online, pay the fee, execution of the decision |
| Questions | 800 333 333 |
This is not a route for every ban. It fits bans linked to an active execution file. Criminal, prosecution and immigration restrictions follow other routes.
On the portal, you usually open the service, go to “My cases”, fill in the form, upload documents, pay, and download the document. Some requests need a judge’s approval, and screens may change.
Automatic removal vs this service. In August 2024, the ministry announced an automatic system that removes eligible bans without a request. The two do not have to clash. Automatic removal applies to eligible cases. The listed cancellation service applies when you must request it and meet the conditions above. The ministry has not published, in the pages we read, a full list of which bans are removed automatically, so check your case on the live portal or call 800 333 333.
A civil ban can end in several ways.
Pay the debt in full and file proof in the execution file.
Get the creditor’s written consent.
Offer a bank guarantee or a solvent surety that the judge accepts.
Deposit the claim amount with the court.
Show the creditor failed to act in time. That means no lawsuit within 8 days of a pre judgment ban, no execution within 30 days of a final judgment, or no activity for 3 years.
Once the court decision reaches the authority, the ban is considered lifted. This can take a couple of days or more.
A criminal ban usually lasts until the investigation ends, the case is decided, or the prosecutor accepts a request to lift it, for example on alternative guarantees. A lawyer should handle this.
You can file a grievance against a civil travel ban order within seven working days, under Article 209(1) of the Civil Procedure Law.
There is no fixed term. It depends on the case.
| Ban type | Usual end point |
|---|---|
| Civil debt | Payment, settlement, guarantee, or court decision |
| Bounced cheque case | Payment or settlement of the execution file |
| Criminal | End of investigation, verdict, or prosecutor approval |
| Inactive execution case | Three years without activity |
No law sets one fixed timeline for every ban.
The biggest cost is the money you owe, plus any court or execution costs in your file. For the Ministry of Justice cancellation service, the ministry lists a fee of 300 and a duration of two days.
Any agent asking a large upfront fee to “delete” your ban deserves doubt. Courts and authorities lift bans after payment or a legal decision, not through a private shortcut.
Scammers target worried travellers. Watch for these signs:
A site that promises “instant removal” for a fee.
A request for your UAE PASS password or OTP.
A payment link sent over WhatsApp.
A page that copies government logos but sits on an unfamiliar domain.
Safe habits:
Type official addresses yourself, such as dubaipolice.gov.ae, adjd.gov.ae and moj.gov.ae.
Download the Dubai Police app from the official app store listing.
Pay only inside the official portal.
Airport authorities can stop you at departure. You may lose the ticket value and miss your connection. You may also need to attend a court or prosecution date before you try again, so check with the issuing authority.
The government portal also reminds travellers that ignorance of the law is not a defence.
Run through this at least a week before you fly:
If you have a work dispute that could lead to a case, learn how to file a MOHRE complaint first.

We checked each step against the official Dubai Police, Abu Dhabi Judicial Department, Ministry of Justice and UAE government pages, and the federal laws on the UAE Legislation portal. Some services work only after login, so menu names inside them may differ.
This guide gives general information. It is not legal advice. For a live case, speak to a licensed UAE lawyer.
Not confirmed at the time of writing:
Exact current menu names inside the Dubai Police app, Estafser and the MOI app.
Whether Estafser covers emirates beyond Abu Dhabi.
Official online check channels for Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah.
Which bans the Ministry of Justice removes automatically.
Dates for Dubai Police phase two.
A UAE travel ban check online is quick and worth doing before every trip. Start with Dubai Police if you live in Dubai, and use Estafser for Abu Dhabi matters. Then check the issuing authority, not just the result screen.
Remember three things. A clean check on one system does not cover every ban. Removal needs payment or a legal decision, not a paid shortcut. And official sites beat guides, including this one, when menus change.
Check early, fix any issue, and book after that.
Log in with UAE PASS on the Dubai Police app or website and open “Inquiry About Circulars and Travel Bans”. For Abu Dhabi, use Estafser. Dubai Police lists the inquiry as free of charge and instant. Check each portal for any fee.
Use the Dubai Police app or website. The service shows circulars and bans and names the issuing authority. In phase one, instant payment covers Rental Dispute Settlement Centre bans.
Use the Estafser service of the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department. Enter your UID number and the captcha, then click Search. You can also call the ADJD call centre on 600 599 799.
A police station can check with your passport, but no official service gives an online result from a passport number alone. Use the official portals instead.
Dubai Police lists its inquiry as free of charge, and no fee is listed for the Estafser inquiry. Paying a debt, a court fee or the Ministry of Justice cancellation fee is separate. Ignore sites that charge to “check” for you.
Yes, it can. A dishonoured cheque can start an execution case, and a ban may follow if the debtor does not comply.
Not by itself. Serious offences or unpaid fines that turn into a debt claim can lead to one. Pay fines early.
It depends on the case. Civil bans end with payment, consent, a guarantee, or a court decision. Criminal bans last until the case ends or the prosecutor lifts them.
Find the issuing authority, then pay the debt, ask the court, or file the Ministry of Justice cancellation request. That service lists a fee of 300 and two days, and needs an active execution file. Eligible Dubai rental bans can lift online after payment.
No. A labour ban blocks new work permits. A travel ban stops you leaving. Read our labour ban guide.
Be careful. Official bodies lift bans after payment or a decision. Never share your UAE PASS password or OTP.
