ICP Unified Fine System — AED 50/day, effective 11 Feb 2026
This is an estimate based on the ICP Unified Fine System (AED 50/day, effective 11 Feb 2026). Exit permit fees (~AED 250–300) and e-service charges (~AED 52) are not included. Always verify your exact fine through the official ICP Smart Services (non-Dubai) or GDRFA Dubai portal.
A UAE visa overstay fine check takes a few minutes, and the number to know first is AED 50. That is the fine for every extra day after a visa expires or is cancelled and the grace period, if any, ends. ICP lists the same AED 50 per day for expired stay on its visa and residence violation fine service.
Tourist and visit visas carry no grace period, so the count starts the day after expiry. Residence visas first get a grace period after cancellation, and its length depends on the residence category. This guide shows where to check the fine, what each portal asks for, how the grace periods work, what an exit permit costs and what to do if the fine is already running.
The portal to use depends on where the visa was issued: GDRFA Dubai for Dubai visas and ICP Smart Services for visas from the other emirates.
Not sure whether the visa is expired or already cancelled? A quick visa status check shows which date the fine counts from.
GDRFA Dubai’s Fines Inquiry service shows fines on your own file or on files under your sponsorship.
The GDRFA Dubai app and DubaiNow app can run the same check. Fines can be paid at an Amer centre or through the GDRFA channels.
ICP handles violations for visas issued outside Dubai through its Payment of visa or residence violation fine service.
The Smart Services system runs 24 hours a day. Customer Happiness Centres are also listed as a channel and follow their own opening hours. For help, ICP’s call centre is 600522222.

A no fine result does not always mean the record is clear. Check these points first:
If the fine still does not appear, contact GDRFA or ICP, or visit an Amer or Customer Happiness Centre with the Emirates ID, passport and visa page.
The UAE visa overstay fine is AED 50 per day once any applicable grace period has ended. ICP’s guide lists AED 50 per day after the visa is cancelled or expires for tourist, visit, job exploration, transit and similar entry permits. The legal basis is the Federal Decree Law on the Entry and Residence of Foreigners, and the fine is recorded in the ICP and GDRFA systems.
For residents, the UAE Government Portal notes that the overstay fine is AED 50 per day, up from AED 25 under the earlier rules. If an old overstay from before the reforms was never settled, check ICP or GDRFA before applying for any new visa.
Tourist and visit visas have no grace period, and the fine counts from the day after expiry. Residence visas get a grace period that runs from cancellation or expiry, and ICP sets its length by category.
| Residence category | Grace period | Fine starts |
|---|---|---|
| Golden, Green and Blue residence holders and their families | 180 days | Day 181 |
| Widows or divorced women of residents | 180 days | Day 181 |
| Students after completing studies | 180 days | Day 181 |
| Foreign passport holders who are relatives of UAE citizens | 180 days | Day 181 |
| Skilled workers, levels 1 to 3 | 90 days | Day 91 |
| Property owners | 90 days | Day 91 |
| Visa with a guarantor or host | 60 days | Day 61 |
| All other categories | 30 days | Day 31 |
Source: ICP cancellation of residency permits service, which lists these periods. GDRFA Dubai’s service page for cancelling residence permits states a single 60 day grace period for all residence permit types, so a Dubai visa holder should confirm the date on GDRFA. The UAE Government Portal says grace periods are up to 6 months depending on the category. The grace period check helps you work out your own end date.

Not sure which row is yours? It follows your residence category, and the residence visa types each carry their own rules.
The overstay fine equals the number of overstay days multiplied by AED 50. Use the calculator at the top of this page, or work it out by hand with the examples below.
These totals are the fine only. ICP lists a AED 100 smart services fee on its payment service, and an exit permit has its own fee, covered next.
| Days overstayed | Fine at AED 50 a day |
|---|---|
| 1 day | AED 50 |
| 7 days | AED 350 |
| 30 days | AED 1,500 |
| 31 days | AED 1,550 |
| 90 days | AED 4,500 |
| 180 days | AED 9,000 |
A person who overstayed usually needs to clear the fines and get an exit permit before leaving. Both authorities say a regular exit permit requires payment of all outstanding fines first, and the permit must be used within 7 days of issue.
| Authority | Exit permit cost | Processing |
|---|---|---|
| GDRFA Dubai | AED 241 | 48 hours |
| ICP Smart Services | AED 200 plus AED 100 smart services fee | 2 days |
Sources: GDRFA issuance of a departure permit and ICP issue departure permit. ICP adds a late fine of AED 50 per day starting from the eighth day after the permit expires or is cancelled. Travel details such as a ticket within 7 days, the passport and a photo are needed.
A grace period only gives time to leave, change status or find a new visa. Once a residence visa is cancelled it is already invalid, so working, sponsoring family or processing documents is not allowed during that window.
If the employer cancelled the work permit first, confirm the visa cancellation date on GDRFA or ICP rather than guessing. Still inside your validity? Starting the residence visa renewal before expiry costs far less than any total above.
Pay through the authority that issued the visa. Both options below were checked on the official service pages.
ICP also runs an Easy Payment initiative for customers with outstanding obligations or fines, with a minimum amount of AED 500. Ask ICP whether your case qualifies before you apply. After paying, confirm in the system that the fine is cleared before you travel.
A UAE overstay fine is not waived automatically. GDRFA Dubai publishes an exemption service for violators of the residence law, and each request is reviewed by the authority.
A general amnesty is not listed on ICP or GDRFA at the time of this check. The earlier emergency relief for people affected by regional disruption ended with ICP’s final 30 day grace period, which ran from 10 June to 9 July 2026.
Who the relief covered, which documents a hardship request needs and what follows a decision are set out in the visa fine waiver guide.
If you have already overstayed, check the fine on ICP or GDRFA, confirm the amount and clear it before travelling or changing status. A short accidental overstay is manageable: 5 days is AED 250, 10 days is AED 500 and 30 days is AED 1,500, before the smart services fee and any exit permit.
Use GDRFA Dubai’s Fines Inquiry service for Dubai visas, or ICP Smart Services for other emirates. GDRFA asks for a file, UDB, Emirates ID or passport number plus nationality, place of issue and date of birth. ICP’s payment service needs a UAE Pass login.
The fine is AED 50 per day, as listed on ICP’s service page. Tourist and visit visas have no grace period, so the fine starts the day after expiry.
No grace period is listed for tourist and visit visas. ICP’s guide lists AED 50 per day after the visa is cancelled or expires.
Thirty days comes to AED 1,500 (30 × AED 50). ICP lists a AED 100 smart services fee on its payment service, and an exit permit adds AED 241 at GDRFA Dubai or AED 300 at ICP.
An unpaid fine can hold up a new visa or exit permit, because fines must be cleared first. After payment the matter is settled, though ICP keeps the record.
A general amnesty is not listed on ICP or GDRFA right now. ICP’s final 30 day grace period for people earlier exempt from fines ended on 9 July 2026. GDRFA also runs a violators amnesty inquiry page, so check it for your own file.
Go by where the visa was issued, not where you are. Dubai visas use GDRFA or an Amer centre, and all other visas use ICP Smart Services with UAE Pass.
Yes. GDRFA’s legal awareness page lists a AED 50,000 fine for recruiting a foreigner without giving a job or letting that person work for others. It also lists AED 5,000 for a false absconding report and says absconding staff must be reported within 10 days. See the absconding rules for the process.
Yes. GDRFA Dubai accepts a passport number with nationality, place of issue and date of birth. ICP’s service pulls data through UAE Pass.
No. The fine is AED 50 per day across the UAE. What differs is where you check and pay, and the Dubai grace period of 60 days listed by GDRFA.
